1. A Borderless Twin City: Nova Gorica and the Italian city of Gorizia were once divided by the Iron Curtain. However, in 2007, when Slovenia joined the Schengen Zone, the border disappeared, allowing free movement. Today, Europe Square sits at the former border, symbolizing unity and cooperation between the two cities despite their different histories and languages.
